The Bread and Butter Thing operates through our community hub. Members receive a weekly text message asking if they would like to place an order, and food can be collected every Thursday.
What do they supply?
The Bread and Butter Thing provides affordable weekly food bags made up of surplus food from supermarkets, manufacturers and farms. Typical bags include:
- Fresh fruit and vegetables
- Chilled foods such as milk, cheese and meat
- Cupboard staples such as pasta, cereal, bread and tinned foods
The contents change each week depending on what surplus food is available, but the aim is to provide nutritious food while reducing waste.
Volunteer Opportunities
Our local Bread and Butter Thing hub depends on volunteers to help make each collection day a success. Volunteers can help with unloading deliveries, sorting food, packing orders, welcoming members, and assisting during collections. It's a great opportunity to support local families, reduce food waste, and make a positive difference in the community. No previous experience is required, and support is provided for all volunteers.
